Responsible Care Committee

Purpose

The scope of the Responsible Care Committee encompasses all issues concerning member companies’ activities that promote the continuous improvement of environment, health, safety & security (EHS&S) standards, in the production, storage and movement of petrochemicals and chemicals produced by GPCA full members.

Objectives

The Committee shall support the GPCA Board of Directors by discussing, analysing, seeking alignment on and recommending solutions to all EHS&S issues, impacting the petrochemicals and chemicals industry, that come before the GPCA, based on the three strategic pillars of Effective Networking, Thought Leadership & Advocacy:

  1. Creating networking platforms to bring together GPCA members for sharing information, latest trends and promoting best practices related to Responsible Care related topics through conferences, workshops, seminars and general networking
  2. Addressing EHS&S issues of common interest to Member Companies, through the development of common positions and publications arising from industry and regional developments, statistical data and best practices etc.
  3. Advocating and promoting EHS&S best practices, policies, standards, benchmarks and measuring their impact on petrochemical and chemical industries
  4. Coordinating and facilitating the GCC chemical and petrochemical EHS&S improvements through the engagement of government sectors, regulatory stakeholders, and industry players

Supply Chain Committee

Purpose

The scope of the Supply Chain Committee encompasses all activities relating to member companies in relation to the acquisition, movement and storage of petrochemicals and chemicals raw materials and movement and storage of products manufactured/traded both regionally and internationally.

Objectives

The Committee shall support the GPCA Board of Directors by discussing, analysing, seeking alignment on and recommending solutions to all supply chain issues, impacting the petrochemicals and chemicals industry, that come before the GPCA, based on the three strategic pillars of Effective Networking, Thought Leadership & Advocacy:

  1. Creating networking platforms to bring together GPCA members for sharing information, latest trends and promoting best practices related to supply chain through conferences, workshops, seminars, roundtable meetings and general networking
  2. Addressing issues of common interest to Member Companies by developing and publishing reports arising from industry developments, statistical data, opinions and experiences on supply chain issues
  3. Advocating and promoting supply chain best practices, policies, standards, benchmarks and measuring their impact on petrochemical and chemical industries
  4. Coordinating and facilitating the optimisation of the GCC chemical and petrochemical supply chain improvements through the engagement of government sectors, regulatory stakeholders, and industry players
  5. Fostering innovation and recognising excellence amongst the regional chemical & petrochemical supply chain domain

Plastics Committee

Purpose

The scope of the Plastics Committee encompasses all issues relating to Member Companies activities in relation to encouraging, promoting and supporting the sustainable growth of plastics and related industries in the plastics value chain.

Objectives

The Committee shall support the GPCA Board of Directors by discussing, analysing, seeking alignment on and recommending solutions to all issues of common interest, to member companies relevant to the regional plastics industry value chain, that come before the GPCA, based on the three strategic pillars of Effective Networking, Thought Leadership & Advocacy:

  1. To advocate for the development of a globally competitive plastics conversion industry in the GCC
  2. To project the GCC’s Plastics industry as environmentally conscious and socially responsible in all its acts, including producing, manufacturing, marketing and recycling of plastic waste
  3. To work with stakeholders towards upgrading policies and infrastructure for plastic waste management in the GCC
  4. To work closely with all stakeholders in educating the public on the benefits of plastics and responsible management of plastic waste, with a key focus on circular economy
  5. To encourage, promote and support sustainable growth of the plastics and related industries in the plastics value chain
  6. To educate the members and propagate up-to-date knowledge related to Plastics/ Polymers and manufacturing industry data
  7. To keep abreast of latest developments and evolving issues related to plastics in the region and use media platforms to voice the industry’s position, either in favour or against such developments
  8. To advocate the formulation of policies and regulatory framework conducive to the development of the full potential of the plastics conversion industries in the GCC
  9. To create a common platform and to bring together the members to network and share information and best practices
  10. To foster the creation of innovative solutions to societal challenges and recognising excellence amongst the regional plastics industry

International Trade Committee

Purpose

The scope of the International Trade Committee is to monitor international trade practices and trade policy with regard to regulatory measures that affect GCC petrochemical and chemical producers’ access to market. The scope includes:

  1. Advocate for removal of tariff and non-tariff barriers that affects GCC Petrochemical Industry negatively
  2. To facilitate the sustainable growth of the GCC regional petrochemical and chemicals industries through adoption of cost effective and efficient trade system, policies measures at best practices
  3. To promote co-operation on policies that improves the trade flow of GCC petrochemical and chemical products

Objectives

The Committee shall support the GPCA Board of Directors by discussing, analysing, seeking alignment on and recommending solutions to all international trade issues that come before the GPCA, and act as the voice of GPCA members within regional and international entities:

  1. Fostering dialogue with GCC regulators to encourage the adoption of common positions and strategies toward fair international trade regulations, practices and procedures and to promote the formation of alliances that safeguard regional industry interests
  2. Identifying and evaluating international trade barriers that affect GCC petrochemical and chemical exports and developing strategies & priorities for their elimination
  3. Undertaking studies & developing position papers on issues of common interest in the area of international trade so as to promote the growth of the GCC petrochemical and chemical industries and to assist GCC regulators to better utilize and expand unilateral, bilateral and multilateral trade agreements
  4. Providing an early warning system which informs GPCA Member Companies of any trade measure initiations filed or to be filed against Member Companies and GCC countries
  5. Producing an effective mitigation plan and advocating general strategy on the appropriate preventive and pre-emptive actions the committee and/ or Member Companies should take once a trade issue is identified or warning of trade measures is received
  6. Collecting data, analysing and publishing reports & news concerning international trade affecting petrochemicals and chemicals while focusing on emerging trends, business practices, commodity problems, industrial economic development and other relevant matters that may be referred to the committee by Member Companies
  7. Increasing the level of awareness, among related industries, organizations and other governmental bodies in the GCC through conducting roundtables, workshops and seminars covering international trade regulation, practices and procedures including trade measures

Fertilizers Committee

Purpose

The scope of the Fertilizers Committee is to support and undertake activities and programs relevant to the promotion of all areas relevant to Fertilizer products and services as well as serve as the voice of GPCA members within regional and international entities.

Objectives

The Committee shall support the GPCA Board of Directors by discussing, analysing, seeking alignment on and recommending solutions to all issues, impacting the regional fertilizers industry, that come before the GPCA, based on the three strategic pillars of Effective Networking, Thought Leadership & Advocacy:

  1. Developing and fostering relationships among GPCA members having an interest in fertilizer issues
  2. Compiling, sharing and exchanging resources, knowledge, opinions and experience on fertilizer issues among GPCA members
  3. Developing links between the GPCA and relevant regional and international associations and government authorities and communities with an interest in fertilizer issues
  4. Sharing and promoting best practices in the fertilizer industry through workshops, seminars, conferences and general networking among GPCA members
  5. Creating sub-committees and/or task forces to discuss specific issues that the Committee may deem appropriate
  6. Recommending, to the GPCA International Trade Committee, actions on all fertilizer trade issues it judges worthwhile pursuing on behalf of the GPCA
  7. Recommending, to the GPCA Responsible Care Committee, actions on all Environment, Health, Safety, Security, Quality and Sustainability issues related to the manufacturing and transportation of fertilizers

 

Research & Innovation Committee

Purpose

The scope of the Research & Innovation Committee is to enhance the understanding and awareness on the importance of research and innovation (R&I) among GPCA member companies and to promote best practices in the management of R&I.

Objectives

The Committee shall support the GPCA Board of Directors by discussing, analysing, seeking alignment on and recommending solutions to all issues of common interest and undertake activities & programs relevant to the promotion of R&I, based on the three strategic pillars of Effective Networking, Thought Leadership & Advocacy:

  1. Inculcating a strong understanding of the R&I discipline and its critical role for strategic development within GPCA member companies and other associated stakeholders
  2. Emphasising the importance of establishing links between R&I and business activities within member organizations
  3. Sharing and advocating best practices in the management of R&I amongst GPCA members
  4. Identifying research areas of common interest, such as projects associated with environmental protection, safety, analytical methodologies or any other topic of mutual interest leading to joint research programs beneficial to member companies on the condition that no antitrust issues are created
  5. Enhancing links and cooperation between the GPCA member companies and regional and international universities and National Research Centers (and other similar research institutions)
  6. Promoting a culture of innovation among GPCA member companies and regional and international universities and National Research Centers (and other similar research institutions)
  7. Aligning, articulating and advising on general chemical and petrochemical R&I strategy in view of global and regional challenges and trends
