Brief company profile

QAFCO’s inception in 1969 as a joint-venture company to produce chemical fertilizers was the first and significant step in Qatar’s industrial diversification program to utilize its abundant natural gas resources. Since then, QAFCO has steered its way successfully, responding adequately to the world market demand for fertilizer and living up to the expectations of its shareholders. QAFCO is now owned by Industries Qatar (75%) and Yara Nederland BV (25%).

QAFCO inaugurated its first plant in 1973. Through scientific strategic plans and the integration of the latest technologies, QAFCO has developed steadily over the years in terms of nameplate capacity, production quantities, quality and competitiveness. The QAFCO complex now comprises six ammonia and six urea completely integrated trains. In addition, the complex includes a melamine plant and two urea formaldehyde concentrate (UFC) plants.

With a sizeable production capacity of 3.8m tons/year of ammonia and 5.6m tons/year of urea, QAFCO is the world’s largest single-site producer of ammonia and urea. QAFCO’s production capacity of melamine and UFC is 60,000 tons/year of each.

QAFCO’s ammonia, urea, UFC and melamine are marketed, sold and distributed by Muntajat (Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company QJSC) to customers around the world. QAFCO’s primary products are mostly in demand in southeast Asia, North America, Australasia and southern Africa.
