The Leaders of Tomorrow program is an initiative launched by GPCA and with the support of our members, it aims at building the local human capital in the region. The initiative falls under one of the three pillars of the association which is advocacy by promoting STEM and bridging the gap between academia and the industry. Leaders of Tomorrow is considered as the first official collective step where industry stakeholders collaborate in shaping skills and preparing the future industry leaders with the required skills set.
The initiative consists of a year-round program where GPCA member companies sponsor university students from around the GCC to attend the GPCA yearly conferences (you can find all our conferences listed below, click on the image to visit the website for more details).
Each conference will cater to the participating students by encompassing an element of the initiative in the form of a seminar, workshop, roundtable and site visit. The main goals of these activities are to provide the students opportunities to learn more about industry trends and will give an overview of the skill set that are required to face new challenges. It will also support member companies with the local talent acquisition process.
Each edition will provide a certain focus on key topics/theme and will highlight the attractiveness of a career in the chemical industry and the opportunities for the future. It will give the students a foundation in what factors drive the chemical industry, its future direction and how it can help meet economic and societal challenges. In addition to that, the program offers significant networking opportunities.

Broad-based support is becoming critical to address the need to fill science, technology, education and math (STEM) jobs that drive innovation in the Arabian Gulf countries. Many of these jobs go unfilled because of both the lack of awareness of the kinds of high-tech jobs available, and the lack of skills to qualify for today’s needs.
Therefore, the student criteria for the Leaders of Tomorrow program is as follows:
- Participants/applicants should currently be enrolled full-time in a university
- Participants/applicants should come from STEM majors
- Participants/applicants should be of a GCC nationality

About GPCA
The Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) represents the downstream hydrocarbon industry in the Arabian Gulf. Established in 2006, the association voices the common interests of more than 250 member companies from the chemical and allied industries, accounting for over 95% of chemical output in the Arabian Gulf region. The industry makes up the second largest manufacturing sector in the region, producing over USD 108 billion worth of products a year.
The association supports the region’s petrochemical and chemical industry through advocacy, networking and thought leadership initiatives that help member companies to connect, share and advance knowledge, contribute to international dialogue, and become prime influencers in shaping the future of the global petrochemicals industry.
Committed to providing a regional platform for stakeholders from across the industry, GPCA manages six working committees – Plastics, Supply Chain, Fertilizers, International Trade, Research and Innovation, and Responsible Care – and organizes six world-class events each year. The association also publishes an annual report, regular newsletters and industry reports
